Zoë Kaylin Eytsowntayle Kaylin Character sheet in Adobe Acrobat 3.0 format (15k). Zoë Character sheet in Adobe Acrobat 3.0 format (14k). Zoë Kaylin Character sheet in Adobe Acrobat 3.0 format (25k). Zoë Kaylin Eytsowntayle (eats-own-tail) is not so much a single persona, as multiple personas in one body. She suffers from multiple personality disorder that has manifested in two (so far) distinct personalities. One of them, an eccentric animal loving horse-trainer, and the other a chaotic unfocused cleric. She is prone to frequent personality shifts, most of which may last for only a few moments at a time. Zoë was hired by a Flind Justicar, named Yoshi, in the party to look after his horse, since she was the first one the horse had not tried to kill. Leaving her job as a stable girl at the Inn of the Frothy Mug in Galencia, she followed the party as the servent of the Flind Justicar until he was killed by a land shark (she was branded a Justicar when she returned his possessions to his homeland - the scars are on her back). Having been the first psionically active person the party had ever encountered, they were taken aback by her abilities and her eccentric style of using them. Not a fighter at heart, Zoë used her abilities primarily for self-defense or to aid the party. One disconcerting habit she had was always healing the horses, and other unrelated animals, before healing the party with her cell adjustment ability.
As she progressed in level, she seemed to become more unstable until a series of events led to a critical cascade in her mental health. When she took a day to go shopping at a local town and returned to the party to find that they were all either dead or turned to stone, she began to unravel. Shortly thereafter, a telepathic wild talent came to the surface, opening up a level of contact with others she was not accustomed to. Couple with the recent death of a team of horses in her care, it was at this point that another personality began to emerge (it was also at this point her progress as a Psionicist halted at 9th level as she dual-classed as a Priest of Kaylias).
Kaylin, as this new personality was known, was actually the personality of a much younger girl who was traumatized when she was abandoned at the local temple of Kaylias (Goddess of Luck). Unable to remember her name when asked, the priests of the temple named her after their goddess and began to instruct them in their ways. Her amazing intelligence and wisdom allowed her to proceed remarkably well in the faith, until she abandoned them one day when her original personality surfaced. This is when Zoë ran away and started to work in stables, cultivating a natural talent for working with animals. Within the party, nobody knew this new personality, they only knew it looked like the same girl. Without her bizarre psionic abilities, but instead with her new priestly powers, she began to again re-assert herself as a valuable member of the group. As time went on, her two personalities learned to use their shared telepathic wild talent to communicate an understanding of the mental schism within her head, and this eventually led to the partial fusion of the two distinct personalities into one fractured and chaotic personality. When Zoë acted, it was rarely in a predictable way, and both in deference to her goddess and her state of mind, only the personality at the fore-front of her mind could call on its abilities to act. This meant that in many cases where a spell would have sufficed, Zoë's personality had manifested and only psionic actions could be taken. The opposite was true often when a psionic ability would have been preferrable by all involved to a spell (note that this is not a limitation in the rules, but rather a player-imposed limitation). There were, however, many triggers that caused her to flip between dominant personalities, even though both personalities were always aware of all events and actions the other had experienced or taken. These switches were sometimes even at random if one personality were at the fore for too long. This trait caused her to be far more dangerous to everybody around her than most wild mages would be. In one case, she stepped in to comfort a noble woman the party had captured and was questioning. The Kaylin personality protected her from the group until it became clear that the life of her horse was in danger if she were allowed to live. Within seconds, Zoë's personality had re-asserted itself and before anybody could react, she had disintegrated the woman. Zoë has also spent a great deal of time dead, but usually in bizarre circumstances thanks to a Ring of Regeneration given to her by the Vampiric mate of Lord Soren Serengal as a reward for assisting in his resurrection. Zoë would often take an action, like stepping off a flying mount 1,000 feet in the air, knowing it would lead to her death and re-juvination later with the phrase, "I'll be dead for a bit, but I'll get better." This non-chalance for life and death, coupled with her impressive, if unintentional, kill ratio gave her a rather unnatural outlook on death. It was this non-chalance that led her to dive in to a river to save a party member, knowing she would drown but "get better," that led to her demise in the dungeons of Torgar. While she was on the shore, her lungs filled with water, a Death Knight sent her sould directly to the afterlife (an ability he possessed that allowed him to do this to any living creature). She has joined the ranks of petitioners in the afterlife (read, PlaneScape), but keeps falling out of line to gamble in the casinos. Her chances of ever being reincarnated are almost none at this rate. As unpredictable as she was, there were some things you could always count on with her. Zoë would never hurt an animal, in either personality. Any time she has been put in that predicament, it has been bad for the party. Zoë would also never cheat at gambling. Not only does her goddess forbid it, but she has the ability to control so much of her life that it would take the fun out of it. One other thing you could count on was her willingness to come to the aid of a comrade, although it frequently failed to improve the situation. She also had a bad habit of teleporting to the former volcano lair of a dragon (which she helped slay) to work on her temple to her goddess and her inaccessible casino. She would often disappear without warning for days. This ability to go anywhere anytime also turned her into the taxi of the party, moving them across continents on a regular basis. Zoë holds the record for most party members killed at her hands. One was a necromancer named Neron who had gone psychopathic and killed an ill party member. She was the only one who knew his weakness, or lack thereof, being able to completely regenerate no matter what damage was done to him. She carried a magical silver dagger for one reason, if Neron ever went against her, it was the only weapon that would disable him. After stabbing him in the eye, she severed his head and put it in a Bag of Devouring (also carried for this occassion, should it ever occurr), ensuring that even as he started to regenerate, there was no way his head could ever rejoin his body. As it stands, his body is aimlessly wandering Tarien without a head. The other two party members she killed were actually trapped in gems worn around the neck of an invisible demon she killed by randomly disintegrating areas of the room in which he was waiting (disintegrating the gems as well). She was able, however, to release two of her previous companions from the stones in to which they had been turned. Shortly before her death, it seemed as if another personality was coming forth. This one may have been male, but his personality is unknown and his abilities may have been minimal. It is possible that there were many other personalities in her head waiting to come out. |
