Killer Rules
General Rules
- The DM does not like adjudicating rules. Don't make him do it. If the players cannot work it out with the DM's assistance, open season may be called on both players. Alternatively, a duel may be called.
- Play within the spirit of the rules. They are meant to be followed, with reasonable bending. The DM determines what is and isn't reasonable.
- Do not involve non-players in any way. Be sensitive to the fact that you may scare passersby in a protracted firefight. Try not to do that.
- No head shots.
- No destruction or damage of property, whether it's the property of the players, or that of innocent bystanders or businesses.
- Do not break any local, state, or federal laws.
- No one will attempt to impersonate the DM, or find his super secret stash of player information.
- No one in the game should ever fear for their safety. Avoid physical contact, do not place bombs in a car that will detonate while the mark is driving, and other bits of common sense.
- Do not be rules lawyer.
Safe Havens
See the safe havens page for the most up-to-date listing of safe havens.
Who You Can Kill
- Your mark.
- The player who has you as their mark. If you kill someone thinking it was your assassin, open season will be declared on you, and anyone may kill you.
- Anyone showing a weapon. When that weapon is put away, the player is no longer available as a target.
- No more than two witnesses at any kill, including players and non-players. Be aware that surveillance cameras count as no less than two witnesses.
- Failed kills should always be reported. They will be documented for the public to see, with names left out other than the mark.
- Inform the DM of any planned kills. This is especially important when setting bombs, using poisons, or in the case of a particularly entertaining ambush.
- Killing non-players will result in immediate dismissal. This includes catching them in a bomb blast radius, affecting them with a poison, or just willingly shooting them with your gun.
- A mark who uses a non-player to trigger a bomb, or take poison intended for him/her will be considered to have killed an innocent.
- A hit to any part of the body is considered a kill.
- All windows are bullet-proof
When You Make a Kill
- Provided you make a legal kill, you get the weapons and money on the player's person.
- You only get his mark if he was your mark.
- Both the killed and killer must immediately notify the DM of the assassination. They will both be quizzed and their stories matched.
- When you are killed, you are in no way allowed to inform any other players or non-players who killed you.
Joining
- You must pay $5.00 to play.
- You must make sure the DM has approved you.
- You must provide accurate and current information to the DM, including address, phone number, job, and anything else he asks.
Payoff
- The pot will be split 60%/30%/10%. The DM may take a few bucks to buy himself a coffee.
- The winner gets 60% of the pot ($51).
- The second place winner will get 30% of the pot ($25.50).
- The first person to die will get a pity payout of 10% ($8.50). Suicides do not count.
Weapons
See the weapons list for the latest list of approved weapons and their prices. This list will be updated regularly.
- The DM must approve all weapons.
- No dangerous weapons. The DM will decide if an approved weapon gets used in an unsafe way. Pretend the DM is your mom when it comes to judging safety.
- Overly-loud, obnoxious, etc. weapons will not be favored.
- All firearms must fire a projectile. No clicker guns.
- In general, if a player doesn't know he's dead, he may very well not be. No weapon can be considered to have any effect on the target unless it does something.
- Water guns aren't a good idea. If you choose to use one, be aware that destroying someone's cell phone, PDA, computer, etc. will require you to replace it.
- Be prepared to replace any food you poison.
- Contact poisons must touch flesh to be effective.
- If you are caught using a water gun (or other water device) in a place that would otherwise avoid water (book stores, comic shops, Radio Shack), you will be removed from the game.
- Continuous stream water guns are considered machine guns, and are priced accordingly. Check with the DM if you have a water gun.
- All bombs and poisons must be labeled so that the victim has a chance to notice the assassination attempt.
Comments and Disclaimer
- The Game Master's rule is law. There will be no right of appeal against a disqualification, unless the Game Master says so.
- Official complaints about a person's behavior will almost certainly result in disqualification. Involvement of real police will definitely cause player(s) to be disqualified and possibly prevent the player(s) in question from playing in further Killer games.
- Adrian, Buffalo, referees and players, Steve Jackson Games, or anyone else associated with the game can not and will not be held responsible for a player's actions. I do not condone the breaking of laws or rules of nature. When the rules of the game conflict with state or federal laws, always follow the laws or regulations accordingly.
- Non-players should not be disturbed during the course of the game. It takes only a few complaints to police or other such organizations to shut the game down permanently. If you do upset an NPC, apologize...a lot!
- Ideally, no one but the players will notice that the game is being played. Thus, the following are grounds for at least a warning, and possibly immediate removal from the game:
- Attempting an assassination in the presence of an NPC in such a manner that they are disturbed by it. Setting off bombs during a lecture or contact poisoning the main entrance to a dorm is not a good idea.
- Other behaviors that may annoy NPC's, such as running in hallways, making noise in quiet areas, or any semblance of real violence.
- Any and all homicidal tendencies are prohibited.
