Mom and Sue Visit Holland
Wednesday, April 18, 2001; posted by Lisa

Mom and Sue arrived to a beautiful sunny morning in The Hague early Thursday. Paris and I loaded them into the van (our beloved Renault Espace) and took them back to the apartment for a tasty breakfast. We relaxed at the apartment for awhile then went to the winkelcentrum for a brief tour of the shops we frequent almost daily. It was great to show them the places that I talk about so often.

We then got back into the van and drove to Kijkduin, the small resort area near our apartment, on the shore of the North Sea. The chilly wind was whipping around, but the beach and dunes are so beautiful that no one seemed to mind.

After the trip to the beach, we took the tram to the Centrum so that the travelers could check into their hotel and we could show them the shops and sites in the oldest part of The Hague. We had dinner at the Garoeda, a famous Indonesian restaurant, where our table was crowded with loads of tasty dishes. An early bedtime was in order as we had an early train to Paris to catch the next day.

Sue, Lisa, and Rosemary around the tiny table in the apartment, having a tasty breakfast Thursday morning shortly after landing in The Hague. After a healthy meal, our travelers were raring to go...no naps for these ladies!

Paris took this photo of the Bijenkorf, a beautiful old department store in the Centrum of The Hague.

Sue, Lisa, and Rosemary at the table after a delicious Indonesian dinner at the Garoeda. We were seated upstairs and had a great view of a lovely section of the Centrum. Mom and Sue took particular delight in watching Paris attack the food with exuberance, leaving hardly a dish unfinished. Great to have the sunlight stick around until well into the evening.

Mom and me at the beach in Kijkduin. A bit blustery and chilly, but beautiful. Although the dunes were not yet in full blossom, I was happy that she and Sue got to see my favorite part of living in The Hague.

Sue, Rosemary, and I in the apartment shortly after their arrival on Thursday morning. Sun shining brightly! The sunlight makes the apartment seem more spacious than it is in reality...the entire place can be vacuumed from one outlet!

On the tram Thursday morning, heading to the Centrum from the apartment.
