Tour of Madrid, Spain
Sunday, September 10, 2000; posted by Paris

Lisa and I spent 4 days in Madrid, Spain visiting with Jesus and his girlfriend Patricia. We were lucky to have the use of a comfortable and vacant family apartment to use as our home-base. Each day we would take the train to the city and wander lazily through the streets. It was in the low to mid 30's (about 80 degrees) each day and sunny! We had all sorts of good food - things I have not had since I was living in Spain in 1992. We also cooked and siesta(ed) at the apartment when we needed.

We visited the Queen Sofia National Art Center and the Prado. At the Queen Sofia museum we saw Picasso's massive "Guernica" and other works by Dali and Miro. The Prado, by far, is one of the best museums I have ever visited. One needs weeks to go through the museum which is filled with classics. Originals by Hieronymus van Aeken "Bosh", El Greco, Velazquez, Goya and others in the Italian, Spanish, Dutch, French and German schools.

One of my favorite buildings in Madrid - the Metropolis.

The Fountain of Neptune.

Spain's Parliament building.

The Plaza de Colón.

The Plaza de España.

Well known beverage around the world - Tio Pepé.
